It Is Time to Shine a Different Light

Dear reader,

If you’ve been following my work for the past several years, you may remember a special personal project that I did titled, “The Phenomenal Woman Project.” In this project, women of all walks of life were given a platform to share their stories and encourage other ladies. They were not celebrities, no one knew their names- however, they overcame large obstacles and accomplished great things in life. As a result, many were truly blessed by it and looked forward to monthly posts about the next, “Phenomenal Woman.” Some ladies viewed this project as ‘healing’ for them. Needless to say, I was elated at the results in which God allowed to occur.

Several months ago, it was heavily placed on my heart to begin a similar project for the men. However, this one has a twist. While there are men of various races & ethnicities that have impacted my life in positive ways-this time-I’m only focusing on our Black men. Why? Because as a Black woman who cares very much for the men in my life (whether they are family members or friends) as well as our world, I’d become weary of the constant negative views and opinions bestowed on them. This includes (but is not limited to) the endless police brutality and injustice. Let’s not forget the popular response, “He should have just done what the police said.” But I digress.

Our Black men are constantly torn down when they need to be uplifted. Believe it or not, they are not all angry, broken, criminals, deadbeats, unable to keep a job, absent fathers, unaware of how to treat women, etc. Please take a journey with me this year and learn about some who are AMAZING in their own way. I believe that this will be a pivotal beginning in helping to shift some perspectives toward a positive direction.

Who knows what will become of this for sure? My prayer is that hearts will begin to mend, more honor will be given, and many will learn not to be afraid of Black men. I present to you, the “Unspoken Kings Project.”

All my love,

Angie Marie
